Terms & Conditions

Last updated 1 October 2026

Waterwheel Village ("the service") is an online English-learning course provided by The Hakso English School Oy, a company registered in Finland ("we", "us"). When you use the service you are entering into an agreement with The Hakso English School Oy. By creating an account or continuing to use the service, you agree to these terms.

The service

Waterwheel Village is a story-based English course. Chapter 1 is free. Members get one new chapter each week, with spoken villager voices and AI-generated replies to what they write.

Your account

You must be of legal age, or have a parent's or guardian's permission. If you sign up for an organisation, you must have the authority to bind it. Keep your login details private. You are responsible for what happens under your account, and the information you give us must be accurate.

Acceptable use

You must not misuse the service. In particular you must not:

  • use it for anything unlawful, fraudulent or harmful, or to send spam;
  • infringe anyone's intellectual property or other rights;
  • interfere with its security, for example by spreading malware, probing for weaknesses or scraping content;
  • reverse engineer, resell or redistribute the service, or get around its technical limits;
  • try to make the AI produce illegal, hateful or abusive content, or impersonate real people.

AI-generated content

Villager replies, corrections and newspaper articles are produced by AI and may contain mistakes. They are for language practice only and are not professional advice. You are responsible for what you write. You give us a limited licence to store and process it so that we can provide the service. We may remove content or limit replies that break these terms.

Intellectual property

We own the service and everything in it, including the stories, characters, illustrations, voices, software and branding. We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use it for your own learning while your access is active.

Payments, subscriptions and refunds

Our order process is conducted by our online reseller Paddle.com. Paddle.com is the Merchant of Record for all our orders. Paddle provides all customer service inquiries and handles returns. Payment, billing, tax, renewal and cancellation are covered by Paddle's Buyer Terms. The monthly plan renews each month until you cancel it, and the six-month plan is a single payment. See our Refund Policy.

Availability

We work hard to keep Waterwheel Village running, but we cannot promise it will always be available or free of errors. To the fullest extent the law allows, the service is provided "as is", without implied warranties.

Suspension and termination

We may suspend or end your access if you seriously breach these terms, do not pay, create a security or fraud risk, or repeatedly break our rules. You can stop using the service at any time. When your account ends, we delete your data as described in our Privacy Notice.

Liability

We are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, such as loss of data, profit or goodwill. Our total liability is limited to what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing here limits liability for fraud, or for death or personal injury, or any other liability that cannot be limited by law.

General

These terms are governed by Finnish law, and disputes go to the courts of Finland. Consumers keep any mandatory rights they have under the law of their own country. Neither of us is responsible for delays caused by events beyond reasonable control. We may update these terms, and we will tell members about important changes.
